Today I was blessed (yeah I said blessed) enough to be graced by the presence of a young man aboard my downtown 4 train. Of course he came on the train with a loud, demanding tone so I automatically disregarded him and turned up “Niggas in Paris” but as it switched songs I was able to hear some of what he was saying. This rebel soldier was making more sense than numerous textbooks I’ve read. He was spiritual, not religious. He executed the bible in ways I can only do an orange as he pulled out the contradictions and demanded that we provide answers for the ways we have and continue to manipulate the bible into saying what we want and lie it parallel to how we feel. He made numerous points that will always intrigue me even questioning the way that Habibbi ( insert, fuck your bread Habbibi Killa Season clip here) sells our inner city communities ham and bacon eggs and cheese’s and will never dare eat the products themselves. Sometimes we just need to take a step back and dissect what’s really going on. I was blessed with his presence for only five stops but I wish his lesson continued. He gave me what I desire in daily conversation, nourishment and stimulation of my mind.

Ive posted previously about Denzil Porter but he keeps impressing me. DP released a video for his track “Kanye West”, so you know it had to do something with assholes *Yeezy Shrug*.
The vid is real, we all do it, but what I respect is he’s honest with it. We all need to wonder “Yo, Why I Gotta Be Such A Asshole” more often.

Just Say “Yes” To Me (Taken with instagram)
“Never say goodbye when u still want to try, never give up when u still feel u can, never say u don’t love the person when u cant let go.”
How Sweet. So Sweet, It’s Sweet Like Splenda :) Yet -___- these are the kind of quotes that leave you in destructive relationships and situations for eternity.
Sometimes you need to let go even though you want to try because you deserve better. Give up even though you can go on because it’s not worth fighting for. Don’t let these quotes tell you how to live your life. Live your life based on your own thoughts & feelings. No one knows you better than you, especially not anonymous quoter’s.

“Gun Hill Road”
Writer/director Rashaad Ernesto Green’s first feature film is an intricate portrait of a family divided told with sensitivity, gentle humor, and a deep understanding of the environment that shapes its people.
After three years in prison, Enrique (Esai Morales) returns home to the Bronx to find the world he knew has changed. His wife, Angela (Judy Reyes), struggles to hide an emotional affair, and his teenage son, Michael (Harmony Santana), explores a sexual transformation well beyond Enrique’s grasp and understanding. Unable to accept his child, Enrique clings to his masculine ideals while Angela attempts to hold the family together by protecting Michael. Still under the watchful eye of his parole officer (Isiah Whitlock, Jr.), Enrique must become the father he needs to be or, once again, risk losing his family and freedom. Can a father’s fierce love for his family overcome his street-hardened ideas about manhood and end the vicious cycle controlling his life?
It has been released in numerous theaters but unfortunately not embraced by numerous movie-goers due to the sexual transformation and exploration. As society, many will fear or shun what they do not know or afraid of. Yet, this movie is definitely something I will definitely be watching.

Jean Michel Basquiat x Harlem
“The Manifest: A Conjuration of Radiance” Exhibit was a great experience. Basquiat was indeed a NYC native, but the fact that in this one room people from the different diasporas of the world were able to come together in remembrance and appreciation of Basquiat’s work moved me. Beautiful people of different races, afro’s, perm’s, caesars, braids and dreads praising in admiration the work of a man who was gone too soon. Upon the anniversary of his death, I had happened to bump into numerous people who had known him. Yet, the story I remember the most is from an Brooklyn tattoo artist I had met:
Him: “You want a Basquiat crown?”
Me: ” Yes, the graffiti artist and painter. Jean Michel Basquiat. SAMO.”
Him:” No, I know he is. I knew him. I remember seeing him in the Bowery, outside in day time walking round in a robe, high off drugs. He did that all the time, he always had on that robe. Strolling.”
Even though it’s NOT a story that makes Basquiat seem amazing, cool, dope or radiant by societies standard’s, its still my favorite- for now at least. I’m not sure if it’s my favorite because it was realistic or maybe because as we continued to talk he placed the scenery around me and I envisioned I was there (and began to ignore the girls came in asking to have their boyfriend’s name’s tattooed). But I loved that it was Jean Michel being Jean Michel, not Jean Michel being Basquiat-that black painter who’s dating Madonna.
Im sure, many people have “known” him, “seen him”, “smoked with him”, “drank with him”, “partied with him”, and in essence I am a tad jealous. Jealous that I was not able to see one of my biggest inspirations walk around in that robe, in those same tattered sneakers, flip that cigarette and step on his paintings as he created these master pieces. Yet, I do feel grateful every time I meet a person, who has met him, as they help piece together my mental masterpiece of this radiant man.

Watch The Throne: Pop Up Store
In honor of the release of “Watch the Throne” Jay x Ye, opened up the Pop Up Store in Soho, NYC decorated in all of the throne’s glory. Yet, I was disappointed.
1. As you approach the store, there’s a large x in charge security guard outside. Why thoooooooooouugghhhh?
2. Since outside looks so top-notch, you’d assume “yo inside? has to be toooooo live”. WRONG. Its just a large white room with the Maybach on oneside- which is the highlight- and the video playing in the other section. Where’s the glitz and glamour? Or did you think “there’s a Maybach, why they need anything else? I invented swag”
3. According to security’s (there’s two guards, as if I could hook back up the Maybach and drive it through the door) discretion “you can only take a picture, if you purchase the CD. With the purchase of the CD, you are limited to only one picture, nothing more.” Is the flash of a camera going to make the vehicle disappear? No? Oh.Ok.
Maybe, just maybe, I expected too much. But, why should I expect anything less than to be amazed when dealing with the likes of Kanye and Jay Z?
Headlines x Thinking About You
A while ago I had saw VanJess’ ( Ivana (19) and Jessica (18) ) do over Justin Bieber’s track “Baby” by using ONLY vocals and beatboxing. Needless to say, I tried it myself… didn’t quite work out. Anyway though, the amazing, talented and beautiful VanJess recently did a mash up using Drake’s track “Headlines” & Frank Ocean’s “Thinking About You”. Take a look, trust, they do not disappoint.
